WHAT IS THE ASIAN AMERICAN MOVEMENT EZINE?

In the summer of 1999, a group of Asian Americans in the Boston, MA area wanted a vehicle to network Asian American activists in different geographies, across generations, and with differing viewpoints in order to build Asian American activism. We decided to create an alternative medium for political, cultural, and social change connected to Asian American issues. This became the Asian American Movement Ezine, the Azine.

A Voluntary Effort
We create and maintain the Asian American Movement Ezine website as volunteers, united by the ideals of justice, equality, and a better world. Each member of the collective, who is also an activist in community organizations, labor, or student groups, donates his or her own money and time to make this website possible. We do not profit from this effort, nor do we accept advertising dollars. We seek to provide a forum for exchanging ideas on how to better organize for contemporary conditions, a vehicle through which to organize mass social change, and a place for social and artistic expression.

Our Principles of Unity of the AAME

1. We believe that capitalism produces inequality, injustice, and exploitation that should be exposed and combated.

2. We support more collective and cooperative processes and structures as a framework for society.

3. We support the working people, the majority of society, especially its most exploited and disadvantaged sectors.

4. We support Asian Americans and other people of color in their struggles against inequality and discrimination.

5. We support the rights of women and those of other oppressed groups.

6. We support international solidarity against global exploitation and for national self-determination. We support peace and equality among nations.

7. We support the preservation of the environment.

(The principles of unity of the AAME will be re-evaluated periodically)
