J-A Community Rallies to Support Kurt Isobeposted 9/16/06 Kurt Isobe, a 19-year-old Japanese American was arrested in May 2005 at a demonstration against the anti-immigrant Minutemen (see previous story). Kurt and four others were roughed up by Garden Grove police and charged with various misdemeanors and felonies. The other four accepted pleas to lesser charges. But Kurt told his parents he did nothing wrong and wanted to go to trial to prove that. He has just completed a jury trial that ended in aquital on two counts and hung-jury in his favor (10-2, 9-3) on remaining charges. A juror even wrote to the judge urging that they not pursue a retrial because of his obvious innocence and the waste of taxpayers money. But the DA's office is pushing to retry! Community supporters are organizing a fundraising party to support his legal costs.: DATE: Sat., Sept. 16, 2006 (today) Those willing like to donate, but unable to attend can send checks made out to "Kurt Isobe Support Committee" to NCRR, c/o 231 E.
