Orlando Vietnamese Americans stop CVS

3/2/02

The Vietnamese American community has stopped the construction of a CVS pharmacy in its Little Saigon enclave in the Colonialtown area. After months of picketing to protect thirty two businesses in the middle of the Vietnamese business district, CVS has backed off its plans.

Vietnamese residents said the one-acre CVS would destroy the character of the community, which was buying the property from a Vietnamese American owner. The opposition to the CVS had collected over a thousand signatures and organized the pickets.

Orlando is home to one of the largest Vietnames American communities in the state.
