THE VIETNAM WAR AND ASIANS IN AMERICA (3 of 8)

During World War II, again in the name of "national security'', 110,000 Japanese-Americans were evacuated by order of President Roosevelt into internment camps. The fact that they were American citizens made no difference, because, as Sen. Tom Stewart candidly explained, "A Jap is a Jap anywhere you find him." The business they left behind were conveniently taken over by white businessmen. After their release from the camps, the Japanese were resettled in dispersed parts of the country. so even though the Japanese population in America now numbers over 400,000, because their communities have been destroyed, they have been living as isolated and invisible individuals ever since. As another threat over our heads, Title II on emergency detention of the Internal Security Act of 1950 still stands and can be activated by the government any time it chooses to ....

So racism isn't simply prejudice in ignorant people's minds. Racism has always been, openly or in disguise, part of the American political design. Racism has provided America with land, loot, and cheap labor. On these American capitalism has been built.

The otherside of the racist coin is imperialism.

(part two)

President Wilson, who once allowed that "the masters of the government of the U.S. are the combined capitalists and manufacturers of the U.S.," understood very clearly the need for an expansionist policy. Wilson wrote, "Our industries have expanded to such a point that they will burst their jackets if they cannot find an outlet to the markets of the world. Our domestic markets no longer suffice. We need foreign markets."
