Power-One Update

In mid-May, several Power-One workers came up to Chinese Progressive Association to ask for help. Power-One is a manufacturing plant located in Allston, MA. They are the sixth largest power conversion equipment manufacturer in the world with factories in Europe, Asia and North America.
What drove the workers to come to CPA for help was their right to organize was threatened. The workers at the plant organized a one-hour work stoppage over the unfair severance and bonus pay. Management responded with threats that they could be fired, arrested, denied severance, and denied unemployment insurance. What made the workers even more angry was the unfair severance and bonus packages the company was giving to the laid-off workers.
Greater Boston Legal Services filed a complaint with the National Labor Relations Board against Power-One for the threat. With the help of Chinese Progressive Association and many supporters, the workers organized three pickets in front of the Power-One factory in Allston.
