Nova Knits Pays Workers!

3/6/06

San Francisco-based NOVA Knits has finally paid off half a million dollars owed to its laid-off workers. NOVA Knits. Former NOVA Knits employees - mostly middle-aged Chinese women - used marches, appeals to the city's Board of Supervisors, protests at retailers such as the Gap and Abercrombie & Fitch that sold NOVA Knits' clothing and threatened protests outside the CEO's home to win their settlement.

The SF Board of Supervisors had urged NOVA to settle the dispute. The Chinese Progressive Association, which supported the laid off workers, said that this struggle was "low-wage workers standing up for their rights."

See previous article about the struggle.
