We Are America

posted 5/17/06

In response to recent legislative developments in the US Senate, immigrant, labor, and faith-based groups in New York are organizing a series of events as part of a national week of action for immigrant rights, from May 14th to the 20th.

The week will culminate with a massive march for justice for immigrants, organized by the New York Immigration Coalition.  The march will proceed down Madison Street in Manhattan on Saturday May 20, 2006 at 2pm.

In the week leading up to the march, groups will focus on grassroots lobbying, with the goal of bringing the grassroots momentum from the streets directly to legislators by generating thousands of phone calls, letters, telegrams, and faxes to President Bush and lawmakers.

Asian Pacific American groups are planning to form an Asian Pacific American
contingent in the march to make Asian Pacific Americans more visible in the immigration debate.
