Little Tokyo Continues Support for Ehren Watada with Candlelight Vigil

10/22/07

press release from Nikkei for Civil Rights and Redress

Lt. Ehren Watada, the first US commissioned military officer to refuse deployment to Iraq, faces a critical legal ruling by Judge Benjamin Settle of the US District Court in Tacoma. Judge Settle will rule whether Lt. Watada can be tried for a second time by the military or whether to uphold Watada's constitutional rights to protection from double jeopardy. If Settle rules in Lt. Watada's favor, the military cannot put Lt. Watada on trial again since they failed to convict him in a previous trial earlier this year. Judge Settle is expected to rule before October 26th, so public support for Lt. Watada is very important!

Please support Lt. Watada's resistance to the illegal and immoral war in Iraq. You can help by:
1) Join us for a candlelight vigil on Monday, October 22nd at 5:30 pm at the corner of South Alameda Street and East First Street in Los Angeles's Little Tokyo.
