Eggroll

Race is something I think about often due to my upbringing and the way I view current events in this country.  In a fit of creativity, and with the always confounding issue of race in the back of my mind, I wrote the following poem a couple years ago:

Never kowtow to the SWM
with his mail-order bride catalog
upon his lap, tapping his pen, double-checking
his checkbook, picking out that rare Thai virgin
who will hang from his arm at the pub, and later
at the club the sight of your Jap ass brings out the
fight in him, and he raises his chin, puffs out his chest
and yells across the bar:

“What are you still doing here?
Didn’t we bomb you VC back to Bombay?
Stay out of my way and pay for my drink, ya chink.”

But, don’t blink.

Don’t even raise your hand against him.

Just hum as you pass him by,

“At least I don’t have to pay for sex.”
